Weather instruments

Skyfora is proud to present next generation weather instruments that provide improved insight into
the atmosphere and various weather phenomena like tropical storms.

StreamSonde RS

The StreamSonde RS is used for radiosounding from surface to desired altitude, and as DualsondeTM from altitude down to surface. It is deployed from a balloon, drone or UAV. During ascent and descent, it provides basic meteorological data (PTU and GNSS based wind) and previously unavailable vorticity and turbulence data, as well as optional air quality data.

  • Cost efficient and environmentally friendly. Small size, low weight and re-chargeable battery allows the use of smaller weather balloon requiring less gas. Simultaneously, the amount of weather instrument debris in the environment is reduced significantly.
  • Skyfora Dualsonde TM. Radiosonde during ascent, released at pre-configured height, free-falling dropsonde during descent.
  • Providing generous amount of data from P, T, U and GNSS during ascent and descent. Complementary sensors: 3D magnetometer, 3D gyro/accelerometer and optional air quality sensor provide new data about wind speed, turbulence, vorticity and air quality without the need of separate soundings.

StreamSonde DS

StreamSonde DS is used for atmospheric profiling from flight altitude to surface. StreamSonde DS is deployed from airplanes, drones or UAV’s having a compatible launcher. Throughout the descent it provides basic meteorological data and previously unavailable wind turbulence and vorticity data from the complementary sensors.

  • Ultralight with incomparable versatility. No parachute needed, long descent time. Generous amount of detailed data from P, T, U, GNSS, and complementary sensors; 3D magnetometer, 3D gyro/accelerometer and optional air quality sensor.
  • Small size and light weight enables low terminal velocity of < 5m/s providing unprecedented details of horisontal and vertical wind.
  • Dropped from an airplane, drone or UAV above the storm, into to the storm.

StreamSonde AQ

StreamSonde AQ provide basic meteorological data (PTU and GNSS based wind) and previously unavailable vorticity and turbulence data, as well as air quality data at altitudes between surface and 10 km height. It is deployed from a balloon, drone or UAV. The re-chargeable battery and low weight makes it even more cost efficient and environmentally friendly.

Atmospheric Sounding System

The atmospheric sounding system comprises ground check unit, FM antenna and receiver and StreamSW software providing meteorological parameters in standard formats together with intuitive real-time visualizations.

Prior to launch the StreamSondes’ transmission frequency is set and sensor calibration coefficient are read by the StreamGC (Ground Check) unit using NFC. StreamRX receives StreamSonde transmissions and sends data to StreamSW software running on any Windows PC, where data is converted to meteorological and engineering units.
